Dr. Kennedy received a PhD in psychology from the University of North Texas. During this time, she worked as a psychological and research associate in the depression clinical research center  at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

She then completed a clinical internship and a postdoctoral fellowship in neuroimaging and neuropsychology at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, UT Health and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Career

For over 20 years, Dr. Kennedy held a position in the TBI Center of Excellence at Brooke Army Medical Center.  As a credentialed and privileged neuropsychologist, her clients included active-duty service members, veterans and adult dependents with brain injuries.  She worked with service members returning from deployment with blast and other brain injuries, as well as service members with mild brain injuries from sports, falls and assaults. She evaluated patients for neurocognitive disorders referred from neurology and other medical services.  Common behavioral health conditions among her clients included PTSD, depression and anxiety. Chronic medical illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes were present in many of her patients.

In her role as senior research director for the Brooke Army Medical Center Site of the multi-site national TBI Center of Excellence, Dr Kennedy developed and led the implementation of the local research portfolio.  She supervised a team of researchers, wrote, presented and published study findings.

For several years, Dr. Kennedy also ran a part-time private practice providing therapy for older adults and Veterans in assisted living and healthcare facilities. Her broad experience across age groups and backgrounds highlights her commitment to compassionate, expert care.

PERSONAL LIFE

Dr. Kennedy is married with five adult children and ten grandchildren. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, coloring/painting, listening to music, streaming shows and movies, online games and puzzles, swimming and boating. She loves animals, nature and travel. Some of her best memories are from cruises she took to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii and the South Pacific.
